The Blog
Silver linings are all about the little things that aren't glaringly in your face, but are just as—if not more—essential to any aspect of life. It's about the intricate details that create a look, help shed that one last pound, pull an entire event together, act as the key ingredient to a recipe, or complete an outfit—it's a mere, and sometimes crucial, piece of the puzzle. I fully appreciate those small, tiny, intricate "wins" that create big outcomes.
Was I always like this? Well, no. But as the wise Kacey Musgraves says, "If you're ever going to find a silver lining, it's got to be a cloudy day." You have to be put through the mill, trench through tough times {say that five times fast} and overcome adversity to be able to find—or create, if you will—silver linings.
I'm also a firm believer that life is what you make it, and that includes silver linings. So, this is my journey: where I came from, how I got here, and how I work everyday to create the silver lining {insert heart emoji's galore}.
The Blogger
I know what you're thinking, "yayyy, another lifestyle blogger!" I get it—we're a dime a dozen these days. So how am I any different? ::shrugs:: I'm not, really. I'm passionate about life, about the finer moments, the sappy moments, the moments that make your heart pitter-patter, the moments that count—and what are any of those moments if they're not shared with someone, anyone? {Bueller? Bueller?} But, at the end of the day, this is for me.
So, who AM I, you ask? In short {HA! Newsflash: the only thing short about me is my actual height. I'm long-winded and detail-oriented—you can thank my obsessions with WB-meets-CW-teeny-bopper dramas like Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls and Gossip Girl. May they all rest in television peace <3}—what was I saying? Oh, right... In short, here are ten of my silver linings:
- {The Basics} Nikki, Quarter-Life, East Coast {born & raised—cue the Fresh Prince anthem}
- {The Hubs} I met my hubs {aka, Bubby—not a Jewish Gma} when I was 14, got a twinkle in my eye when I was 16, landed him by 17, he put a ring on it at 21, we were hitched when I was 23, and yes, ladies & gentlemen, we plan to live happily ever after <3
- {The Pup} She is the perfect mix of crazy & cuddly, the perfect blend of Yorkie & Maltese, and the perfect first furbaby to rock our cradle. And she is appropriately named: Paris. Which brings me to...
- {The Dreamer} When I was little, I wanted to be a myriad of things when I grew up—one of which was a McDonald's drive-thru attendant {HAD to be the drive-thru—I don't settle, I go right for the best position}. Needless to say, that didn't pan out, and my dream job changed umpteenth times as I grew up. But, one dream that never changed was the overwhelming yearn to get to the city strewn with silver linings: Paris. Did we go? Boy did we ever <3 Not an expectation that wasn't met. Which just means: dream bigger.
- {The Passion} My first passion was, as I'm told by the parentals: talking. Which shortly thereafter turned into writing. Me + a colorful pen + a doodle-worthy notebook = my idea of a therapy session. {Peep the This + That tab!}
- {The Entrepreneur} As a diehard tomboy, I entered my teens, took that persona and did a complete 180. What's the girliest thing I could think to do? Hair. Fashion. Make-up. Beauty. Style. Create. That tomboy, turned creator, is now an Entrepreneur—and shopaholic. Proud owner of Creations a la Nikki—an in-home & traveling hair & beauty salon. {Peep the Hair + Beauty tab!}
- {The Creator} You didn't think I'd stop at Hair + Beauty, did you? I also thrive on the anticipation & anxiety that comes with planning a party {themed, always}, crafting a personalized gift, or actually getting around to one of the thousands of Pins I've been meaning to do... {Peep the Hostess + Crafty tab!}
- {The Battle of the Bulge} Those from my yesteryears know a very different version of me—a slightly more padded version. I'm still taken aback when someone new in my life is surprised to hear that I come from, shall we say, a chubby childhood. That's because sometimes I forget I'm no longer that version. When you spend 20+ years of your life with someone, it's hard to get out of their shadow—especially when that shadow is yours. This battle is a one of my thickest silver linings {no pun intended}. {Peep the Health + Fitness & Eats + Sips tabs!}
- {The Lover} I L O V E: love, my family, my friends, a good theme, a great walk down memory lane, a laugh-til-it-hurts conversation, pulling off surprises, the bargain-buy of all time, right-clicking and brushing up on my synonyms, the invention of the emoji keyboard, ombre {forever}, Jillian Michaels & her ability to kick my ass through the television, colored tights, wine, and S O many more things that you'll just have to stay tuned {or look around} to find out...
